POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
灯屋
Lunch set meals cost 800 yen, with choices such as grated-daikon tonkatsu and chicken with grated daikon and ponzu. Each comes with miso soup, a small side dish, pickles and rice. In the evening, the menu also features teppan-grilled dishes and small plates.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
The ponzu for the grated-daikon tonkatsu is served on the side, so diners can add as much as they like. One reported detail is that the pork was cut into easy-to-eat pieces. Akariya’s lunch sets cost 800 yen and come with miso soup, a small side dish, pickles and rice. The side dish can be swapped for an onsen egg, according to the menu, giving diners another choice as they put together their meal.
There is a good range of set-meal options: fish such as grilled mackerel and grilled salmon, meat dishes including tonkatsu with sesame miso and fried chicken with tartar sauce, and vegetables steamed in a bamboo basket. Chicken with grated daikon and ponzu is also listed as a set meal. One diner recalled crispness on the outside and tender meat that remained moist. A guest who chose the fried chicken with tartar sauce described the meat as fluffy and tender, and noted that salt and pepper were served alongside it.
In the evening, diners can order teppan-grilled dishes and small plates as well as set meals. A dish such as tonpeiyaki or smoked shishamo makes a good accompaniment to beer or chuhai. Whether you’re after a substantial lunch set or a few evening plates and a drink, the menu offers options to suit different appetites and moods.
Payment is cash only. Lunch is served from 11:30 to 15:00, and evening service runs from 17:30 to 23:00. The restaurant is closed on Sundays.
